It was with great anticipation that I accepted Todd and Leah Williams’ invitation to design their first hair salon in historic St Charles, Illinois. I have always been fond of 19th century architecture, so the opportunity to design a Victorian inspired interior in this landmark community along the Fox River (west of Chicago) was especially intriguing.
The most challenging aspect of the design was selecting furnishings from the offerings available which would echo the Victorian esthetic. A muted color palette of red-amber and mustard yellow was used in combination with sheer taupe drapery to capture the feeling of a bygone era. Shine Salon closed in 2009.
